Top Ten Places to Visit in Upstate New York

Well, The Hill Cumorah Pageant is over and everything is back to normal here at Palmyra Inn. I have more time to really enjoy this area this time of year. I made it my goal, when I moved out here four years ago, to do and experience as much as I could and not waste whatever time I had out here. As a result I have discovered some really incredible places to visit in upstate New York. I have created my Top Ten Favorite Places in Upstate New York and I am going to share them with you. Most are very close to Palmyra, but a few require a couple hours in the car. For the next several months I plan on expounding on these treasures of New York, but here is the list if you would like to do a little research on your own:)

Here it is (in no particular order):

Watkins Glen State Park

Grimes Glen

Sonnenberg Gardens

Corning Museum of Glass

Letchworth State park

Niagara Falls

The Jell-o Galleria

LDS Church History Sites

Lake Ontario

1000 Islands

Hill Cumorah Pageant July 10 - 11 and 14 - 18, 2009

The Hill Cumorah Pageant is upon us! Palmyra is bustling with people from all over the world here to enjoy the largest outdoor pageant in the world. The dress rehersal is Thursday July 9 at 9:00pm EST and kicks off seven phenomenal performances. The last performance is July 18. The show starts at 9:00 pm and is about 1 hour and 15 minutes long.

In a combined fundraising effort the local Rotary and Lions clubs provide food consessions at the Hill. Everything from hamburgers, hot dogs pizza and an amazing chicken BBQ are availabe. Another local favorite are salt potatoes. If you have never had them - you should!

The show is free and so is parking. The Palmyra Inn shuttles to and from the pageant every night it is playing as a service to our guests. This is a grerat way to avoid the crowds in the parking lot. We hope everyone enjoys the Pagant as much as we do!

Spring is in the air!

Spring has finally come to Palmyra NY. I have spent the week enjoying the outdoors and the beautiful weather. Spring and blossoms are synonymous in upstate New York. The apple and cherry orchards are a sight to see along the Seaway Trail. The Lilac Festival in Rochester starts the Festival season with a BLOOM! Lilacs happen to be my favorite flower and I have to admit I go a little over board with my camera. I only wish I could capture the scent as will and the color. Palmyra Inn is offering a Lilac Festival package to join in the spirit of spring. Check out the detail on our Specials and Packages page. This package is only available for the month of May so make your reservations now! Look for other festival packages to follow as the seasons change.
